JACKSON, Miss.–A big part of Mississippi’s effort to attract people to the state from other states and other countries is centered in the Delta. Visit Mississippi made a presentation to state lawmakers Monday, highlighting the importance of the Mississippi Blues Trail and the Mississippi Freedom Trail, both which have important stops in the Delta.
“A journey of a thousand songs begins with a single note. And, a tradition found in a singular place: The birthplace of America’s music: Mississippi,” said a commercial that is being used to market Mississippi.
That spot was played for a joint committee of the House and Senate on tourism.
“It is our job as Visit Mississippi, that is our job is to market to people from outside Mississippi to come and see what it is all about,” said Rochelle Hicks, director of Visit Mississippi. .”People from other countries want to come and experience the music and the food of Mississippi.”
Hicks said to further that Mississippi’s marketing campaign has gotten an upgrade in partnership with public relations firm Maris, West and Baker. “Wanderers Welcome”, is the new slogan.
Mississippi’s welcome centers are also getting upgrades, and that includes the one near the river in Washington County.
