FRIARS POINT, Miss. — A woman died after being stabbed Tuesday at an apartment complex in Friars Point, according to the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a reported stabbing at the Lapalla Villa Apartment Complex, where investigators identified the suspect as 73-year-old William Henry Chatman of Friars Point. Authorities said Chatman fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived.

Deputies provided life-saving measures to the victim until Pafford Medical personnel arrived and established a perimeter in an effort to locate the suspect.

The victim, identified as Bobby Jean Brown, suffered a stab wound to the chest and was airlifted to Regional One Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Brown later died from her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Chatman was later transported by a family member and turned over to the custody of the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office thanked residents of Friars Point for their assistance during the investigation.
