YAZOO CITY, Miss.–If you own your gun lawfully, you’ve got nothing to worry about. But, if you have a gun and it’s not legal, Yazoo County Sheriff Jeremy “Bull” McCoy, says police are looking to take it away. It’s called Operation: Gun Control.
The program was announced on the sheriff’s department’s facebook page Monday.
“From now until March we will be working day and night to legally confiscate at least one illegally-possessed firearm daily,” said the post. The post then goes on to invite people who have guns illegally to voluntarily turn them in at the sheriff’s office or the Yazoo City Police Department.
MCCoy said the two departments are teaming up to get illegal guns off the street.
“Yazoo County…will not be a sanctuary for unlawful activities.”
Yazoo City has had numerous gang-related crimes, including shootings, over the past year.
