YAZOO CITY, Miss.–After a shooting early Friday morning in Yazoo City sheriff’s deputies chased and caught three people. One was later released by mistake.
A Facebook post from the sheriff’s department said two people were caught after they were spotted in a residential area of Yazoo City about a mile away from where the shooting happened in Jonestown, which is separated from the rest of the city by an old river cutoff. The two who were found quickly both had guns, one stolen and one unregistered.
Jachilles Smith was found inside someone’s house, hiding in the attic. Sheriff “Bull” McCoy did not provide details on Smith’s identity, like an age or address.
After he was turned over to city police for questioning, they let him go. The sheriff’s department calls it an unfortunate miscommunication. They are still looking for him and intend to charge him with breaking and entering.
