Jacob Potter, 32 of Yazoo County, has been charged with arson of church property and possession of a controlled substance following a fire on the property of Hillcrest Baptist Church last week.
“The suspect had set fire to a number of items, using gasoline and a pan to hold the items,” Stubblefield said. “He told deputies he was attempting to ‘rid his life of all his demons.’” said Simon Stubblefield of the Yazoo County Sheriffs Office
After the fire was contained, Potter was found to also be in possession of methamphetamine in a felony amount.
Although the fire originated near three crosses on display on the church property, Stubblefield said that “He did not set the crosses on fire…the fire got away from him, but it was still done on church property.”
