WILKINSON COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — At least 15 Mississippi prison inmates have died since late December. The latest was 39-year old Jesus Garcia. He was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday at the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility. The prison is operated by Management & Training Corporation, a private company. There were no obvious signs of assault and Garcia’s death is still under investigation. Garcia was sentenced to 20 years on a capital rape conviction from DeSoto County in 2006. More than two dozen inmates are suing the state over prison conditions.
