LAWRENCE COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — Another investigation has been launched after an inmate died Saturday at the Lawrence County jail. The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Chadwick Coglyn of Bogue Chitto. Two deaths were reported Thursday and Friday last week at Parchman as well. One of the victims there was identified as 61-year old Timothy Sharpe. He was serving a 20-year sentence for sexual battery and child molestation. Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton says there is no evidence of foul play in either death. At least 21 inmates have died in Mississippiâs prisons since late December. On February 5th the Justice Department announced that its civil rights division would investigate Parchman and other Mississippi prisons that have struggled with violence, tight budgets, short staffing, and shoddy living conditions.
