The 6th Annual Citywide Mayor’s Youth Council Black History Program is happening February 28, 2023, at 10 a.m. The event will be held at the Washington County Convention Center. It will feature a production of Anne & Emmett by New Stage Theatre, a play written by Janet Langhart Cohen and directed by Xerron Mingo and Lindsey Neville. The play is a history lesson about the importance of tolerance, compassion, and justice and brings together the two slain teenagers, Anne and Emmett, beyond the grave to recount the racial hatred and cruelty that led to their deaths. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Nikki Landrum, Kyla Rice, or Lauren Bell in the Mayor’s Office at 662-378-1501.
