Brett Favre Is Giving It All Back

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Brett Favre is repaying $1.1 million in welfare money that he received for multiple speeches where he did not show up. Mississippi state auditor Shad White says his office received $500,000 from Favre on Wednesday plus a promise from Favre to repay the other $600,000 in monthly installments. On Monday White released an audit of spending by the Mississippi Department of Human Services showing the former NFL quarterback was paid by the Mississippi Community Education Center, a nonprofit group whose former leader has been indicted in a welfare embezzlement scheme. White applauded Farve for his good faith effort, adding his office does not believe Farve knew the money came from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. On Facebook Farve said his Favre 4 Hope charity has donated nearly $10 million to underserved and underprivileged children in his home state of Mississippi and Wisconsin, where he played most of his career with the Green Bay Packers.
