CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Some people in Clarksdale have been getting scam calls and some of those callers have been impersonating the chief of police, says Chief Robin Linley.
The chief said in a Facebook post warning people, that the scammers are even using the Clarksdale Police Department’s number.
He said some of the calls have said there’s a warrant out for your arrest and you need to send money to keep from going to jail. Linley said that’s not how the courts settle up with people and before you give out information or send money to anyone you should contact the organization that the sammers have claimed to be and verify that they were trying to contact you.
Linley said some people have gotten calls saying their Social Security number is about to be revoked and others have gotten calls from people claiming to be the IRS or Amazon.
Linley said scammers often try to get money out of people by threatening legal action. He said you can contact the Clarksdale Police Department to report scams.
