The Connecting Communities Digital Initiative, a program aimed at fostering creativity and accessibility through the Library of Congress’ vast digital collections, has unveiled its latest round of funding opportunities. The initiative, which is part of the Library of Congress’ Of the People: Widening the Path campaign, seeks to empower libraries, archives, museums, higher education institutions, artists, and scholars in residence to leverage technology for storytelling and community engagement.

With a focus on diverse communities including Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and other communities of color, the Connecting Communities Digital Initiative aims to encourage individuals and educational and cultural institutions to reimagine and remix the Library of Congress’ digital collections. Through these efforts, the initiative aims to broaden access and provide new perspectives on the nation’s history and culture.

The recently announced funding opportunities comprise various award categories, including programs tailored for Artists or Scholars in residence, Higher Education, and Libraries, Archives, and Museums. Grants ranging from $70,000 to $90,000 will be awarded, depending on the specific category and project scope.

Applications for the Higher Education and Libraries, Archives, and Museums awards are currently being accepted and will continue to be received until September 7. Those interested in participating in the Artist/Scholar in Residence program have until August 7 to submit their applications.
