HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — A man in his early sixties from Hancock County has become Mississippi’s first record death from the Covid-19 virus that originated in Wuhan, China and has now spread into worldwide Pandemic. According to a statement by the Mississippi Department of Health, the man had underlying health issues and succumbed to the effects of the virus in a Lousiana hospital. Another 16 cases were confirmed in Mississippi by the state Thursday morning. The new positives came from DeSoto, Forrest, Harrison, Holmes, Jackson, Jones, Pearl River, Smith, Walthall, Wilkinson, Winston, and Yazoo counties bringing the total so far to over 50. There were 10,442 cases of the virus in the U.S. by Thursday afternoon, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with 150 deaths.
