JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Mississippi State Department of Health says flu activity remains elevated in the state but itâs not too late to get vaccinated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates there have been 29 million infections nationally with 280,000 hospitalizations, 16,000 flu-related deaths and a proportional increase in pediatric deaths this year. Vaccinations are recommended for anyone 6 months of age and older and especially young children, people over 65, pregnant women and those with underlying health problems.
