JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — During its first month the Mississippi Lottery put over $7.6 million into the state’s coffers. Players have been buying about $10 million worth of scratch-off tickets each week and have claimed more than $44 million in winnings. At the current rate the Lottery would generate more than $90 million a year in scratch-off tickets alone; until 2028 the first $80 million of lottery revenue each year will fix roads and bridges and any revenue after that will go to the state’s education enhancement fund. About 1500 approved lottery retailers keep 6% of lottery ticket sales, and Powerball and Mega Millions games go on sale next Thursday.
