Governor Reevessigns $300m Grant Program Bill

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Governor Tate Reeves has signed Senate Bill 2772, creating a $300 million grant program for small businesses hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic. Legislators used part of the state’s $1.25 billion in federal relief to create the program which is divided into two parts. $60 million will provide $2000 for businesses that were forced to close by government orders including barbershops, salons, dance studios, gyms, and child care centers; the other $240 million is for grants ranging from $1500 to $25000 to cover virus response expenses. For the first 21 days the only applications considered would be from businesses that did not receive aid from the federal Paycheck Protection Program and for the first 60 days, $40 million of this money is reserved for minority-owned businesses.
