Greenville, MS – Mayor Errick D. Simmons has taken a decisive step to tackle the deplorable conditions and uncleanliness plaguing the Hallmark Garden Apartments on East Reed Road. In a statement, Mayor Simmons announced a Special Call City Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 1 pm. The meeting aims to secure an emergency council order and adopt a resolution addressing the dire state of the commercial private property, which poses a threat to public health and safety.
The announcement comes in the wake of a disappointing turn of events when the property manager failed to fulfill commitments made at the City of Greenville Properties Committee Meeting on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. During the meeting, the property manager assured city officials that the necessary cleaning and maintenance would be completed by the end of the week. However, these assurances were not upheld, leading to further harm to the health and safety of both the residents and the community.
Mayor Simmons expressed his deep concern regarding the deteriorating conditions at the Hallmark Garden Apartments, highlighting the urgency to take immediate action. “It is a sad day when the taxpayers of Greenville have to live under these conditions and then be taxed to clean up private commercial property,” Mayor Simmons stated.
