Officers with the Greenville Police Department were patrolling the area of Alexander and Gloster streets when they noticed a vehicle matching the description of one that was reported stolen. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver of the Chevy Impala refused to yield or stop for the officers.
During the pursuit, officers heard what appeared to be several gunshots coming from the vehicle. The chase continued through several streets and finally came to a stop around Orlando/Eureka where the suspects jumped out of the stolen car and ran.
GPD officers were able to apprehend two of the suspects and another was later captured during a separate traffic stop. Further investigation revealed the suspects intentionally fired gunshots at officers. 19-year-old Jamarcus Correll, 18-year-old Dwayne Hemphill, and 14-year-old Allen Henry, Jr., however, other names that eluded police will not be released until a warrant is signed for their arrest. All three were taken to the Greenville Police Department, then transported to the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility where they remain until their initial court appearances.
Correll was booked in on previous outstanding felony warrants for aggravated assault, shooting into dwelling house and gang activity. Hemphill was booked in on felony taking of a motor vehicle. Allen was booked in on two counts of attempted murder of law enforcement officers by shooting at police during the vehicle pursuit.
