Chancery Judge Charlie Smith was getting out of his truck to go inside the courthouse Monday morning when he was shot in the abdomen. The judge was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police believe one shot was fired and are reviewing surveillance video of the area. Chancery judges in Mississippi handle divorces, child custody cases, adoptions, and guardianships.
