Leland, Indianola Man Die in Weekend Traffic Accident

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued 6824 citations of which only 1% were for DUI during the Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period. Between Wednesday and Sunday, MHP troopers investigated 185 motor vehicle crashes including 49 injuries and 10 fatalities on state and federal highways and interstates. Four people died in single-vehicle accidents; a Grenada man died Thanksgiving afternoon rollover on Interstate 55 in Holmes County, a Florence man was killed Friday afternoon in another rollover on Highway 49 in Rankin County and two Byhalia residents died when their cars crashed into trees in Marshall County. One accident happened on Saturday, the other on Sunday afternoon. A head-on crash on US 49 in Sunflower County Friday afternoon killed a Leland man, and an Indianola man died early Saturday morning in an accident on US 49 in Humphreys County. A Brandon man was killed Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle was struck by a car on Mississippi 13 in Simpson County; a pedestrian was hit by a car and killed Saturday evening on I-55 in Montgomery County, and a Memphis man and New Albany Man both died when their vehicles crashed on Mississippi 15 in Union County Sunday morning.
