The mayor’s proactive approach includes designating June as Gun Violence Awareness Month and illuminating City Hall in orange to spread awareness. According to recent statistics, an average of 43,375 lives are lost to gun-related incidents each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released data confirming that firearms are the leading cause of death among youth and teenagers. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Mayor Simmons believes it is the responsibility of the city of Greenville to offer solutions and support to save lives.
