Mayor Urges Caution After Severe Thunderstorm Hits Greenville

Greenville, MS — Following a severe thunderstorm, Mayor Errick D. Simmons has issued a safety advisory for Greenville residents and visitors. The storm has caused significant damage, including downed trees and power lines across several key areas.

Trees are reported down on highways and roads such as Hwy 1 at Reed, Hwy 1 at Rosedale, Cypress Lane, and Tampa at Hwy 82. There are also disruptions at 2517 Witchtree, 216 Omega, Goodrich and Williams, and Broadway at Deaton. Additionally, Greenville Mid Delta Airport has experienced tree damage and potential impacts to buildings.

Mayor Simmons noted that some downed trees are entangled with power lines. Utility companies and relevant local and state agencies have been notified. City crews, including public works, traffic management, and first responders, are actively assessing the damage and will begin clearing roadways as conditions allow.

Mayor Simmons emphasized the need for patience as crews proceed with caution to ensure the safety of the public and restore normalcy.
