The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 8, 2024, involving officers from the Summit Police Department and the McComb Police Department.
The incident took place as Summit police were conducting a checkpoint near West Railroad when a vehicle approached. Following an initial interaction, McComb police officers arrived on the scene, and an exchange of gunfire ensued between the subject and the officers. One officer was killed during the exchange of gunfire. The subject also sustained fatal injuries, while two other officers involved were injured but are expected to recover, according to authorities.
MBI officials stated that the investigation is in its early stages, and the details are subject to change as more evidence is gathered.
Upon the completion of their investigation, the findings will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office for review. Further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
