VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — Vicksburg and Warren County have been having a rough few days with mudslides covering roads, trees falling over from the rain-soaked ground, and massive power outages. Entergy reported around 3,000 people lost power Thursday when a large tree fell across crucial power lines tearing down the lines and several utility poles along Old Highway 27. Three schools reportedly lost power and were forced to dismiss students early. Police and Sheriff’s officers were kept busy directing traffic at intersections without power. U.S. 61 was blocked earlier by a fallen tree. A mudslide last week covered a section of Redwood Road that remains closed and another damaged parts of Boy Scout Road. Other roads are either underwater from flooding or have buckled from the nearly 10″ of rain the area has seen recently. Entergy meanwhile expects to have service restored to all but a handful of customers today.
