PANOLA COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — The new Panola County sheriff planned on hitting the ground running after taking office but has run into a big setback. Panola County Sheriff Shane Phelps says someone wiped all but one of his department’s computers clean, deleting files from computers at the justice complex in Batesville. Phelps and his staff were unable to pull incident and accident reports for three days and has forced staffers to create their own filing systems for summons and complaints. The sheriff believes he knows who’s responsible but has not contacted the attorney general or requested an investigation.
