Parchman Superintendent Resigns After 20 Years

PARCHMAN, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Superintendent of the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman has resigned. Marshal Turner says his decision had nothing to do with political pressure, just that it’s time to “move on”. Turner worked for the state department of corrections for more than 20 years and was appointed superintendent at Parchman in October of 2017. Violence in Mississippi prisons led to several lawsuits against the state for inhumane conditions and Governor Reeves decided to close Parchman’s Unit 29 earlier this year.
