Pregnant Woman Fatally Shot in Mound Bayou, Suspects Arrested

MOUND BAYOU, Miss. — A young woman and her unborn child were fatally shot in Mound Bayou on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office received a call for assistance from the Mound Bayou Police Department around 11:52 a.m. reporting a shooting at 501 Brenda Street. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Kiearra Walker, 24, with a gunshot wound to the upper chest area.

Walker was rushed to Bolivar Medical Center, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Tragically, her unborn child also died in the incident.

Demarcus Ramiz, 18, and Cherie Hamlin, 20, both residents of Mound Bayou, were arrested in connection with the shooting. They are being charged with two counts of murder and are currently being held at the Bolivar County Regional Facility pending their initial court appearance.

Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams expressed gratitude to the community for their assistance in quickly apprehending the suspects. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
