PARCHMAN, MS (Ben Caxton) — Another Mississippi prison inmate is dead in what has been a week of violence that’s led to a statewide lockdown of all public and private facilities in Mississippi. The latest death happened at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman where a 32-year-old inmate died Thursday morning of multiple stab wounds. A small fire set in one wing of the prison caused a temporary evacuation as well. Also on Thursday the Chickasaw County Regional Correctional Facility saw one inmate,26-year-old Gregory Emary of Hernando who was serving a 16-year sentence for burglary killed in a fight. 25-year-old prisoner Walter Gates died and several others were injured during a fight among prisoners at Parchman on New Year’s Eve, all after what the Department of Corrections called a “major disturbance” Sunday at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Greene County which left 40-year-old inmate Terrandance Dobbins dead and two others were hurt.
