Reeves Extends Safer at Home Another Week

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — While extending his statewide “safer at home” order another week, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has eased restrictions on outdoor sports and leisure venues. The Governor recommends all residents stay home as much possible, noting the virus can be especially difficult for people who are 65 or older or who have conditions such as heart disease. He also implored people to limit holiday weekend gatherings to small groups and maintain social distancing, sanitize items, wash hands, and wear masks. Lighter restrictions on outdoor sports and leisure venues take effect today for water parks, playgrounds, and racetracks. Sports teams can hold outdoor practices, and schools can open their gyms and weight rooms with extra sanitation but movie theaters, bowling alleys, and museums have not received the governor’s blessing to reopen. Extra precautions have been mandated in eight counties with a high rate of the virus. Masks are required at outdoor events like flea markets and auctions and by those shopping inside retail businesses like grocery stores.
