JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Governor Tate Reeves says Mississippi’s public schools, which closed on April 17th, will remain closed the rest of this semester. Distance learning will continue and Reeves has asked educators to prepare plans to continue educating the state’s students during the summer. During yesterday’s press conference he said an announcement about possibly extending Mississippi’s “shelter in place” order, which expires after this weekend, will be made later this week. On Monday Reeves and other state officials toured parts of south Mississippi that were struck by Easter tornadoes that stayed on the ground for nearly 90 miles with winds of 200 mph; 12 people were killed and damage was reported in 30 of the state’s 82 counties.
