The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is working to evaluate the extent of damage caused by severe weather and tornadoes that ravaged the state on March 24. MEMA is collaborating with affected counties to provide support and aid to those affected by the catastrophe.
At present, MEMA has confirmed 21 storm-related fatalities. Carroll County reported three fatalities, Humphreys County also reported three fatalities, Monroe County reported two fatalities, and Sharkey County reported a staggering 13 fatalities.
Search and rescue operations have ceased, and MEMA is currently advising residents of Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sharkey counties to register for FEMA Individual Assistance. To register, residents can visit disasterassistance.gov or call 800-621-FEMA.
