A mandatory evacuation has been ordered for parts of Jackson and Ridgeland as days of torrential rain have brought the Pearl River to almost 38 feet, about ten feet above flood stage, threatening more than 2400 homes and businesses. Water has been creeping into northeast Jackson for several days and nearly 100,000 sandbags have been distributed in Hinds County. The highest crests on record are 43.3 feet in April 1979 and 39.6 feet in May 1983. [sc name=”twitterfollow”]
