JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Speaker of the House Phillip Gunn says tough financial decisions will have to be made when Mississippiâs legislature reconvenes on May 18th. Before the coronavirus outbreak, Mississippi was in great financial shape standing at $200 million above the revenue estimate for the fiscal year but Gunn says lawmaker’s top priorities should be healthcare and the economy. Business-oriented states like Mississippi wonât be able to go much longer without a running economy and opening business could result in spreading the virus. Gunn says everything is on the table, and teacher raises which were approved in February could be rescinded.
