TUNICA, MS (Ben Caxton) — Tunica Teens in Action has shut down after failing to show the state how it spent thousands of dollars. The non-profit was fined $5000 and shut down by Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann for failing to show that all charitable funds were being applied to its charitable purpose. According to court documents, the charity failed to keep accurate records for 3 years and couldn’t explain the more than $160,000 three directors of the organization were paid above their reported salaries. Executive director Ashley McKay-Dandridge says the funds were reimbursements for travel and meals as she and others would travel several times a week to Atlanta and Jackson to advocate public education reform.
