TUNICA, Miss–.The U.S. Army may be interested in returning to Tunica for more training maneuvers. Last week’s exercise with the 101st Airborne Division was considered a success by Marie Warner, Airport manager.
“We had several news outlets run stories on the events. These continue to spread and make national news, which put Tunica’s name out there,” said Warner at this week’s county Board of Supervisors meeting.
She said the Army was pleased enough with the event that several high-ranking generals attended a special ceremony thanking the city, county and airport for their support.
“From an airport perspective this was a remarkably successful operation and has opened the door, without a doubt, to establishing a long-term relationship with the Army,” she said, adding that when asked if they would consider returning, the Army said yes.
One supervisor suggested that the training exercise may show the airport’s capabilities beyond commercial flights, which are sparse, and may show that other sources of revenue and uses for the airport are possible, even suggesting that Delta State university may consider using the airport as part of its commercial aviation program.
