JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Unemployment rates across the country have skyrocketed since the coronavirus outbreak and the Mississippi Department of Employment Security has seen a dramatic spike in unemployment claims during the past week. Despite adding staff and phone lines and adjusting hours of operation from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM seven days a week, MDES says their staff and systems are overloaded and suggested filing unemployment claims online. Governor Tate Reeves has relaxed requirements including suspending the work search requirement so individuals won’t have to look for work as long as their job is intact.[sc name=”twitterfollow”]
