Utility Shutoff Ban Extended Even As Evacuations Ok’d by Reeves

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Even as Governor Tate Reeves has announced that as of June 1st landlords can again start evicting tenants. At the same time, the state Public Service Commission is extending its order that bans utilities from cutting off customers’ water, sewer, electric, and gas services for nonpayment. The two-month order had been set to expire this week; it has now been extended until May 26th although customers who owe money should arrange to make payments.
