Weather Service Counts 7 More Tornadoes in Latest Outbreak

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Jackson searching debris after last weekend’s severe weather outbreak found evidence that at least seven separate twisters touched down in the state. The storms were mostly weak tornadoes with maximum sustained winds of up to 105 mph knocking out power to as many as 2800 Entergy customers at their peak. Last weekend’s storms followed an outbreak earlier in December that saw 14 tornadoes touch down on Mississippi soil over a 24-hour period.
