Greenville’s Crime-Fighting Camera Plan Hits a Snag Over Power Pole Restrictions

GREENVILLE, Miss.–To help combat crime in Greenville, the plan is to install Sky Cop cams in  “hot spots”, where crime happens most often. But, the Greater Greenville Economic Foundation has run into a problem.
The organization, which has helped procure the cameras with a $150,000 budget to do so, was planning to install them on the metal poles upon which the city puts Christmas decorations.
“Unfortunately Entergy has a policy that we can no longer tie into those poles,” said Daniel Boggs, executive director of that organization, talking to the city council Tuesday. “They are now requiring a completely dedicated 110 volt outlet on the wooden poles. They will not let us touch those metal poles.”
Boggs asked the council for $7,200 to help run the electricity for nine of the city’s 11 cameras.
The other two are installed on poles owned by the city, with no additional work needed.
