OXFORD, Miss.–The rape of a child is being investigated in Lafayette County, says the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Dept. An arrest was made Tuesday.
Deputies first got a complaint about the sexual assault Monday, and by Tuesday Joel Boyd, Jr., 43, of Oxford, was facing several charges, including rape with intent to ravish, and two counts of sexual battery of a child.
Rape with intent to ravish is a harsher charge than rape and could carry a penalty of life in prison.
Boyd faced a judge Tuesday and was granted a $200,000 bond.
Deputies have not discussed any details of the case publicly.
