QUITMAN, Miss.–Quitman County is now reporting damage from the weekend’s storms, though it was not clear if it was from severe storms or flooding.
The county is one of 22 now reporting damage to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.
Damage has been reported to 332 homes, 15 businesses, and 15 farms. MEMA says 50 of those homes are considered destroyed, with some of those in Tate County, where an EF3 tornado hit outside Senatobia. Fifty-seven homes had major damage, said the agency.
In Tate County two people were hurt and 49 homes damaged.
Sunflower County declared an emergency this week, so that any damage repair work can be supported with county or state resources. Four homes and one business took damage in Saturday’s tornado.
An Ef2 tornado was confirmed in Cleveland by the National Weather Service, with winds at 115 mph, in the east part of the city. One home was reported damaged.
So far seven tornadoes were confirmed from the weekend’s storms across the state, with four of those being EF2s.
