GREENVILLE, Miss.–Performers at the 48th annual Delta Blues and Heritage Festival include favorites and newcomers this year. The festival is Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Washington County Convention Center fairgrounds.

Performers include three-time Grammy winner Bobby Rush, who will be performing for the 45th time at the festival.

Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, owner of the Blue Front Cafe in Bentonia is also on the lineup, as is Lil’ Jimmie Reed, of Louisiana.

Keith Johnson and the Big Muddy Band are also featured. Johnson is the nephew of Muddy Waters, of Rolling Fork, one of the all-time great blues performers.

Shirley Brown, whose hits were on the radio in the 1960s and 70s is coming out of partial retirement for a performance.

Newcomers Bre Wooten and FPJ will also be featured, as will Willie Clayton of Sunflower County.

“It’s been a celebration of culture, a celebration of community and a celebration of the deep Delta roots that gave birth to blues,” said Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons, of the festival.
