SARDIS, Miss.–A train derailed Sunday afternoon north of Sardis, according to the Panola County Sheriff’s Dept. That’s the third derailment in the Delta or north Mississippi in two weeks.
There was no fire danger, though the derailment did involve tanker cars.
As on Monday cleanup operations had begun and were expected to take several days.
As with all railroad mishaps or derailments, the National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of making a determination of how the derailment happened and that could take several months.
