MEMPHIS, Tenn.–A Ole Miss football player was killed in a Saturday night shooting outside of a home in Cordova, Tenn., in which four other people were also hurt.

Shelby County deputies responded to a call on Fern Glade Cove about 10:15 p.m. and pulled over a car in which one of the victims was being transported to the hospital. The deputies tried CPR and life-saving measures, but 18-year-old Corey Adams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Adams, of New Orleans, was a freshman on the Ole Miss football team.

Four other people were taken to the hospital and were all expected to survive, according to police.

A motive for the shooting was not clear from deputies and no one had been arrested as of Sunday.

“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee. While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Ole Miss, in a Tweet.
