DURANT, Miss.–Someone apparently dug up a grave at a cemetery in Holmes County and stole items off of the buried body, said Holmes County Sheriff Willie March.
A man who was visiting the Second Pilgrim Rest cemetery near Durant found one of the graves disturbed, reported WLBT-TV.
The casket had been busted open. Jewelry was missing from the corpse, which had been buried about a month ago.
March said the family declined a full exhumation because of the stench.
No arrest was announced.
