LAKE CORMORANT, Miss.–Three Delta elementary schools are receiving special recognition from the Mississippi Dept. of Education for their progress in teaching kids reading. The three are among a group of eight schools recognized state-wide.
Both Lake Cormorant Elementary and Lewisburg Primary in DeSoto County are receiving the designation as Mississippi Emerging Science of Reading Schools.
That is awarded to schools that have trained teachers in the science of reading, exemplified a change of instructional practices, and embodied a school culture that focuses on building skillful, strong readers in kindergarten through third grade,” according to a news release.
Senatobia Elementary has been named a Mississippi Science of Reading school, which goes to schools that have been an “Emerging” school for two years. Senatobia Elementary is the only school recognized as such this year.
The reward is a celebration from the Mississippi Dept. of Education.
