GREENVILLE, Miss. — A Greenville woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred Tuesday morning, police said.
Officers with the Greenville Police Department responded to a report of a possible stabbing around 10:50 a.m. on Sept. 2 in the 300 block of North Theobald Street. Upon arrival, officers found a Black male lying on the ground with a stab wound to the chest.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that the suspect had fled on foot toward North Steele Lane. Police later located and arrested the suspect — identified as 56-year-old Angela Cartwright of Greenville — in the 600 block of West Alexander Street. She was taken into custody without incident.
The victim, identified as 60-year-old John Sexton of Greenville, was transported by ambulance to Delta Health but was later pronounced dead at approximately 2:15 p.m.
According to witnesses, Sexton was speaking with a friend when Cartwright approached and stabbed him in the chest.
Cartwright has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Washington County Correctional Facility, awaiting her initial court appearance.
