Three Greenville Police Department officers have been arrested and charged with multiple federal crimes following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to a statement released by Police Chief Marcus Turner.

Chief Turner identified the officers as Chaka Gaines, Dexture Franklin, and Wendell Johnson, who were charged with drug conspiracy, drug distribution, and aiding and abetting the distribution of drugs.

“The Greenville Police Department does not condone — and will not tolerate — any conduct that violates public trust or the oath to protect and serve,” Turner said in the statement. “Accordingly, the officers involved have been separated from employment with the department.”

Turner said the department remains committed to transparency and accountability and is fully cooperating with the FBI’s ongoing investigation.

“All further inquiries regarding this matter should be directed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Turner added.
