Teen Killed, Woman Critically Injured in Shooting Near Greenville Sonic

GREENVILLE, Miss. — A 17-year-old boy was killed and a woman critically injured Tuesday night after a shooting near the Sonic Drive-Thru on Highway 82 East, according to the Greenville Police Department.

Officers responded around 8 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of Highway 82 East. When they arrived, they found a Black male and a Black female suffering from gunshot wounds.

The male victim, identified as 17-year-old James Sutton, died a short time later, police said. The woman was taken to Delta Health in critical condition and later flown to another medical facility for advanced treatment.

Witnesses told investigators that the suspects were in a dark-colored pickup truck that sped away from the scene.
Investigators continued searching the area for evidence Wednesday and are following up on multiple leads.
