2 Juveniles Arrested in Bolivar County Shooting That Killed Teen, Injured Another

MOUND BAYOU, Miss. — A 15-year-old was killed and another juvenile critically injured in a shooting in Bolivar County, authorities said.

Deputies with the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 9:21 p.m. April 4 to the area of Old Highway 61 and Luke Road, between Merigold and Mound Bayou, in response to a reported gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, deputies found a black Honda Accord parked in the southbound lane of Old Highway 61 near Luke Road with its doors open. Authorities said Alexis Walker, 15, was fatally wounded. Another 15-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries.

Investigators later determined the shooting occurred in front of a residence at 202 Green Ave., near the Mound Bayou Police Department.

The motive remains under investigation.

Two arrests have been made through a joint effort involving the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office, the Mound Bayou Police Department and the North Side Consolidated School District Police Department.

Joei Taylor, 16, of Mound Bayou, has been charged with murder and three counts of aggravated assault. Travis Scott Jr., 17, also of Mound Bayou, is charged with accessory after the fact.

Both juveniles are being held at the Bolivar County Regional Facility pending their initial court appearances.
The Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to the family of Alexis Walker and others affected by the shooting.
