GREENWOOD, Miss. — City officials in Greenwood have canceled two upcoming weekend events following a recent shooting, citing public safety concerns.

In a statement released Thursday, the Greenwood Police Department announced the cancellation of the sixth-year business anniversary celebration for Kush Lounge, which had been scheduled for Saturday, May 23.

Officials also canceled the Westside GP Reunion Day event that was planned for Sunday, May 24, at Sam Leach Park.

Police said the decision was made in response to the recent shooting that occurred earlier this week and emphasized that the cancellations are intended to protect residents and maintain public safety throughout the city.

“It is imperative that we keep everyone’s safety first, so we feel this is necessary to protect all citizens within the City of Greenwood,” the statement said.

City officials thanked the public for their cooperation as the matter continues to be addressed.
